Looking for unlimited opportunities?

A university that has been named "best value" in the nation by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance every time since the magazine began its annual ranking in 1998, Carolina attracts some of the brightest students from across the nation and around the world who choose to join an undergraduate population of 18,000. With 48, Carolina ranks first among all U.S. public research universities for producing the most Rhodes Scholars for the past 25 years.

We seek...

... smart, motivated, and good-hearted students who will enhance our community and the world while at Carolina, and afterwards. Instead of using a formula or evaluating students based on a single number, we look for real people with a variety of qualities—from intellect, curiosity, creativity, leadership, kindness, and courage, to diversity of background and experience. And we read each application thoroughly, as fairly and as thoughtfully as we can, for all-around excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. Check out a snapshot of our entering first-year students. If that’s the kind of company you seek to keep for the next four years, we invite you to apply to Carolina.

Five reasons why you should apply...

....include amazing students, our beautiful residential campus, extraordinary opportunities such as Excel@Carolina, best value, and the great care we'll extend when you do. Read more.

Ready to apply?

All first-year applicants may apply online through the Common Application. (The supplement form for UNC-Chapel Hill will be available by late August.)

All transfer applicants except Nursing should apply online through the Common Application. If you're interested in transferring directly into the School of Nursing as a junior, learn more on the Nursing website.

Note: The University also accepts applications through the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC). However, students who wish to transfer directly into one of our professional school programs (Biostatistics, Clinical Laboratory Science, Dental Hygiene, Information and Library Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, and Health Policy and Management) as a junior should apply through the Common Application.

"From conducting developmental biology research, to volunteering as a doula in the labor and delivery ward of the hospital, to watching the Tar Heels compete on the basketball court, I couldn’t ask for a more exciting and complete college experience."
