Go on a campus tour
One of the best ways to get to know us is to join us for a campus tour and information session, which are offered Monday-Friday throughout the year. If you visit us, you'll go on a one-hour walking tour of campus led by one of our student Ambassadors. Then, you'll hear from an admissions counselor and have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the school, financial aid, and applying for admission. Tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so please make your reservations early. Visitors with disabilities and their families are welcome; to ensure that we may comfortably accommodate you, please call our Tours Desk at (919) 843-9799 at least three days in advance of your visit.
Special Note: Our office will be closing at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 22. While we will not be offering an afternoon tour, you may still sign up for the 10 a.m. tour. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Schedule a tour by logging in to your MyUNC account. If you don't have a MyUNC account, click here to create one.
And while you're on campus...
- Class Visits—— Want to know what it’s really like to attend a class at Carolina? Choose from a diverse list of classes and make sure that the class you choose is offered on the day you visit.
- Model Residence Hall Room——We encourage you to allow time during your visit to visit our model room in Craige Residence Hall. If you stop by Jackson Hall, you can pick up a self-guided tour map that will guide you to the model dorm room, as well as a few other points of interest. The map also offers prospective students a free lunch at Rams Head Dining Hall. Be sure to pick up a map and lunch pass in Jackson Hall. (Free lunch is available from 11:30am until 2:00 pm. We welcome group tours on campus, however, the free lunch is not available to groups.)
- Franklin Street and downtown Chapel Hill——Our campus borders downtown Chapel Hill, an idyllic college town like no other. Experience the restaurants, bookstores, theatres, cafes, and street-fair ambience of our historic town. If you're looking for a restaurant to enjoy dinner or lunch after your campus visit, please see our Chapel Hill restaurant guide.
Can't make it to campus? There is no substitute for seeing Carolina with your own eyes, but if you can't arrange a visit, we hope you can meet with one of our admissions representatives when we travel to your area. Want to know when we'll be in your neighborhood? View Tar Heels in Your Town to see when the next counselor will be traveling to your town.
Transfer Tours. A few times a year, we offer special tours and information sessions just for transfer students. Similar to our other tours, the student-led walking tour is followed by a one-hour information session with and admissions director. Upcoming transfer tours are scheduled on:
Friday, December 11 at 2 p.m.
Friday, January 22 at 10 a.m.
You may register for these events through your MyUNC account.
Group Tours. If you're planning a visit with ten or more people in your party, please call (919) 843-9799 at least two weeks prior to your visit date. We'll help you plan your visit.
Middle School Tours.
Tours for middle-school students are arranged with the UNC Visitors’ Center by calling 919-962-1630 or emailing inquiries to Missy Julian Fox at mjfox@unc.edu. We are able to accommodate groups of up to 60 students. Please submit your request at least three weeks prior to your requested tour date. Because our tours are led by Carolina student-guides, we are unable to offer tours during University holidays and exam weeks. We are excited to welcome your students to campus and to provide a vision of college and all that it offers - from academics to the arts, athletics, student life and history. We look forward to seeing you here at Carolina!
