Thank you for your interest in volunteering to participate in CAAP. Before you sign up, please take the time to learn more about your expected role and responsibilities. After you review this guide, if you wish to join CAAP, please complete and submit the participation agreement form provided at the end of this page.
Roles & Responsibilities
As a CAAP member, you may be asked to participate in one of five activities, all of which are critical in the recruitment process.
1) College Fairs are held across the country each year. CAAP members may be asked to represent the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at these events. The CAAP coordinator will contact members when such opportunities arise.
More information on this topic is available at Basic Training for College Night.
2) Carolina Admissions Receptions are sponsored by UNC in designated cities. Students, parents and guidance counselors are invited to meet with a member of the Carolina admissions staff, CAAP members and other university representatives to learn more about the admissions process. Every reception includes a discussion of the admissions and financial aid processes by an admissions representative.
3) Admitted Student Receptions are designed to encourage accepted students to enroll. These receptions are held in 9 cities within North Carolina, as well as New York City, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. The General Alumni Association is the main sponsor of these receptions. This program format is more informal because students now have very specific questions about UNC-Chapel Hill.
4) Documentation of CAAP Contacts.
If you hear about outstanding high school students in your area via radio, TV, newspaper or other source, CAAP members are asked to contact the CAAP coordinator. The admissions representative for your area will contact the student regarding admissions to Carolina.
5) Contacting Admitted Students.
Currently, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the GAA are formulating an email writing campaign. Through the campaign, alumni will receive a list of admitted students whom the alumnus can write, offering information and assistance to students. This campaign will take place twice during the admissions calendar; once in early February for first deadline admitted students and the second in early April for second deadline admitted students. A script will be sent with the lists to provide alumni a starting point for addressing students’ questions.
Term Limit
Currently, there is no term limit for CAAP members. At the end of each year, we will ask you to evaluate this program. We hope to establish a thriving network of volunteers across the United States so that any prospective student will have the opportunity to speak with a Carolina representative in their hometown. CAAP members are expected to keep in touch with alumni chapter activities sponsored by General Alumni Association.
