Who
Should Apply:
Part-time Classroom Studies (formerly Continuing Studies) is the academic program
for part-time local adult students. Enrollment is limited to 8 credit hours
each semester.
If you want to enroll part-time and you are a commuting student (a student
living in this area for at least 6 months and for purposes other than attending
school) and you do not have a baccalaureate degree, you may file this application.
Admission is limited. Students who have been away from a traditional school
setting for at least one year and full-time UNC-CH faculty/staff employees are
considered. Traditional students who have been denied full-time admission to
the University are not admitted to Part-time Classroom Studies.
Do not complete this application if:
- you
were enrolled as a Part-time Classroom Studies student within the past three years
and have not attempted course work at another institution since your last
enrollment. Request a readmission application from Part-time Classroom Studies.
- you
were last enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at UNC-CH and you
did not graduate. Request a readmission application from the Office of Undergraduate
Admission, CB#2200 Jackson Hall, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-2200, (919) 966-3621
or use the online readmission
application.
- you
already have an undergraduate degree. Request a post-baccalaureate application
from Part-time Classroom Studies.

What
You Are Applying For:
You are applying for part-time
admission; you may register for a maximum course load of eight credit hours
per semester on a space available basis. You may choose from any daytime or
evening courses. All course work carries degree credit. Most of the University's
academic support services, such as the library, are available to Continuing
Studies students; however, social, athletic, health, and similar non-academic
services are not available.
Students admitted to Part-time Classroom Studies are classified as degree-seeking or
non degree seeking. Degree-seeking status requires a 2.0 ("C") average based
on UNC-CH computation for course work taken at UNC-CH or outside this institution.
Applicants must be eligible to return to all previously attended institutions.
Admission to Part-time Classroom Studies does not imply admission to an undergraduate
degree program. Grades earned in summer school and Part-time Classroom Studies will go
toward the student's UNC-CH grade point average, not the student's GPA for grades
earned outside UNC-CH.

being admitted as degree-seeking must also submit the applicable items listed
below:
- *Official High
School Transcript - (Grades 9-12. See instructions below)
- *Official College
Transcript(s) - (See Instructions below)
- Courses in progress
- (For the current year, including course numbers, number of credit
hours, and brief course title.) If you are not enrolled in courses this
academic year, please tell us.
- Official SAT I/ACT

*Request that your high school
transcript(s) and your college transcript(s) (showing all previous attempted
course work) be sent to you, which will allow you to enclose them
directly with your completed application. (Of course, any subsequent
transcripts showing completion of current year's courses should be mailed
directly from each institution to us, as each term is completed.) Enclosing
your transcripts (with your application) will allow us to process your application
more quickly and efficiently. For us to consider your transcripts as "official",
you must leave them in the sealed envelope, just as it comes to you through
the mail from each institution. Do not open the envelope containing the
transcripts if you want us to consider them "official".
If you choose to send transcripts that have been opened by you, we reserve
the right to request an "official" transcript from you, which can delay
our decision. However, if the college(s) or high school(s) will only send
transcripts directly to us, we will process them separately.
Send transcripts to:
- Undergraduate Admissions
- CB#2200 Jackson Hall
- UNC-CH
- Chapel Hill, NC 27599-2200
