Rock Star

Students never forget going on tour with Allen Glazner, Professor of Geological Sciences. Death Valley, the Sierra Nevada, Yosemite. These places are know for awesome shows.

So, at least twice each year, Glazner's students hit the road to these sites and other geologically rich locations, where students put knowledge gained in the classroom to firsthand use. Each one finds something interesting and challenging. They sketch the Devil's Postpile, climb Mt. Hoffmann to find glaciation, examine ancient lava formations, and much more.

Glazner also works with students through courses such as Introductory Geology,
Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, and Advanced Field Seminar in Geology. His seminar in tectonics or petrology recently focused on subduction zones, heat flow, and the tectonic evolution of the western United States.

Glazner's education includes a Ph.D., from the University of California-Los Angeles, 1981, and a B.A. from Pomona College, 1976. He is particularly interested in igneous petrology, tectonics, and the geologic evolution of western North America.
