About Me
My name is Awika and I’m currently in my second year at Carolina majoring in Business Administration and pursuing a minor in Journalism & Mass Communication/Public Relations track. I was originally born in Bangkok, Thailand but moved to Sarasota, Florida (yes, I live where you vacation) when I was six years old—and now I’m happy to call Chapel Hill my third home.
Like a lot of other Carolina students, I find myself involved in a lot of things outside the classroom. I’m an Admissions Ambassador (another words, I give campus tours to prospective students and parents) and I volunteer at Carolina Student Legal Services. I’m also a member of Carolina Women in Business, the Out of State Students Association, and the Campus Y, which is the largest student-run volunteer organization on campus. When I’m not in the classroom or participating in clubs, I enjoy relaxing outside in the grassy quads with friends (especially in the spring), browsing Franklin Street, or having friends over in my room to watch TV or just to hang out.
What initially attracted me to UNC were the excellent academics and the abundance of opportunities (Princeton Reviewranks us as one of the best values in the nation and we’re often regarded as a “Public Ivy”), but what has kept me here was everything else—the best college town in the world, beautiful weather, incredible school spirit, and, most of all, an amazing student body. It’s clear that I have absolutely fallen in love with Carolina.
So as you continue your college search, finish up your applications, and make your final decisions, let me know if I can answer any of your questions (about UNC or college in general) or if I can help you out in any way. Good luck and perhaps one day you’ll feel the Carolina love in you too!
