A Favorite Class--First-Year Seminar on Magical Realism
One of my greatest joys has been my First-Year Seminar on Magical Realism. In this class—which like all first-year seminars—are capped at twenty people, we read and discuss literature that combines the magical with the realistic. As a math and science major, I never expected to enjoy a literature class as much as I’ve enjoyed this one. From Gabriel Garcia Marquez to Toni Morrison, the diversity of authors has truly opened my eyes to new worlds. My favorite work so far has been the Enormous Radio by John Cheever.
