Why Carolina?
Every once in a while, I run across people that will tell me they always knew they would come to Carolina. I am not one of those people.
I am the daughter of an N.C. State graduate, and most of my childhood years that I can clearly recollect were spent cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs, the Florida State Seminoles, or the N.C. State Wolfpack. However, when I moved back to North Carolina after living in Atlanta, Georgia and Tallahassee, Florida, I began to realize just how rich North Carolina is in its opportunities for higher education. I began to seriously consider Carolina as a college option, as I knew from birth that I wanted the college experience that would involve contagious school spirit and national championships.
I applied to five different schools, all considered large as far as population and national recognition are concerned. Ultimately, I was torn between The University of Georgia and Carolina, because I knew I wanted to pursue some type of science degree while also being able to enjoy the excitement and fervor of Division I athletics.
Both schools treated me with the utmost respect throughout the admissions process, and, believe me, I stretched my decision-making time as far as it would reach. Ultimately, I realized that many of the students at Carolina were friendly, motivated, successful, and, most importantly, just like me. Yes, the campus is beautiful, and, yes, UNC-Chapel Hill is one of the most renowned public schools in the nation, but when I realized that I had the opportunity to chase a degree at one of the finest universities while surrounding myself with an environment that already felt incredibly comfortable, I was sold. Carolina was the place for me, and I haven’t looked back. There’s no need to. The future is enough.
