A Typical Day in My Life
I am not, nor will I ever be, an early riser. For that reason, I choose to start my
classes at 9:00 AM at the earliest. This allows me to get most of my classes done in the
morning (with the exception of labs, which typically take place in the afternoon), so
that I have the afternoon and the evening to do whatever needs to be done, which could be
studying, reading a magazine, watching TV, or, one of my favorite things, working out at
the brand new Rams Head Recreation Center on South Campus. Before leaving my room in the morning, I’ll make a quick breakfast of toast and coffee – comfort food for the exciting and challenging day ahead. I typically have two to three classes per day, and I tend to be done around noon.
After class, I’ll make plans to meet a friend for lunch at either Rams Head Dining Hall
or Lenoir Dining Hall, both of which have delicious food. Seriously, people rave about
the cookies, especially when they are right out of the oven. (If you’ve heard of the Freshman Fifteen, beware…it happens here). I rave about the salads and the pesto and tomato pizza, but I guess that keeps me from being boring. Sometimes, I even run into a basketball player! I try not to stare. It never works.
After lunch, I may head to the library to catch up on some reading for class, but if it is a particularly light day homework-wise, I’ll go ahead and return to my dorm on South Campus, where I’ll check my e-mail, change into my tennis shoes, and get ready to hit the gym.
After spending an hour at the gym, I’ll return to my dorm (quietly, though, because my
roommate is very keen on afternoon naps), and do a little more studying before dinnertime. In the spring, when the campus is particularly beautiful, grabbing a blanket and studying out in front of your dorm is a great way to unwind. Around 5:00 PM, my friends and I will head over to Rams Head Dining Hall for a relaxing dinner, where we all get to sit back, relax, and laugh about all the funny things that happened to us that day. Some of my most precious memories from this past year have taken place at dinnertime, when I’ve often found myself laughing so hard that I begin to cry! However, if a song comes on the Rams Head jukebox of which I am particularly fond, I will be singing. I make heads turn, but I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
Around 6:00, the sun is beginning to set on another beautiful day in Chapel Hill, and it’s time to either finish up any studying that I have left to finish before the next day’s classes or head off to the evening’s activity, whether it is InterVarsity Christian Fellowship or Marching Tar Heels practice. Of course, a little TV time gets thrown in afterward, as does a call to my mom, who gets to hear everything about everything that happened that day. After a quick shower and a little bit of light reading (from a book of my choice, usually the latest “chick lit” bestseller), the lights go out and I close my eyes until the next Chapel Hill sunrise. It’s a beautiful life.
