Transferring to UNC & Dorm Life

Transferring to UNC involves various actions that can initially seem overwhelming, but with my advice you will be just fine.  The most fun and yet overwhelming experience for me included moving into my residence hall.  In my opinion, it’s really important to live on campus your freshman year, not only because of the convenience, but it’s a GREAT AND EXCITING way to meet other students.  I can vividly remember receiving my information regarding my roommate as a first-year student.  I was thrilled to meet her and talk to her.  I wondered what she would be like and most of all if we would get along.  Fortunately, my roommate and I had a lot of fun together, and enjoyed one another’s company.  We even liked each other so much that we stayed roommates and kept our exact same room.  Thanks to the advice I learned from others before coming to UNC, I was successful with dormitory experience.  You can also enjoy your first dorm life encounter if you take the same knowledge I used. -

--Talk to your roommate before you meet in your residence hall.  Decide on which individual is going to bring certain appliances.

--Color coordinate your rooms.  Yes, I know, such a girly thing to say.  However, when you get to UNC you will notice that the dorms are great, but they don’t have a personal touch of your home.  So, by agreeing on colors and themes for your room, you add personality to your living experience.  There’s nothing like coming into your wonderfully decorated room after a long day of classes, and being able to relax comfortably.  Remember, this dorm is your home away from home, make the most of it!

--Always communicate with your roommate and if you ever have any problems, address them directly.  Hey, this is your room too! If your roommate ever does something that bothers you talk with him or her regarding the issue.

Good luck transferring to Carolina, I’m having a blast and I know you will too!!!
