Fall at Carolina

Once you decide which organizations to spend your time with, then comes the planning for the semester and the dedication to that organization. There is some party or forum or movie sponsored by someone every night.

Carolina in the fall is spellbinding. With each fall I spend here, I become even more amazed at how beautiful it is. All the trees are turning into the warm beautiful colors that signalize the fall. A walk through Coker Arboretum will cure any problem you have. There is a chill in the air that makes you fell alive and glad to be back at home.

Not only is the campus beautiful this time of year it is bursting with activities. Fall is prime recruiting for all the organizations on campus. The first few weeks of school are filled with organization and interest meetings for campus organizations. There is something for everybody and if you play your cards right it is possible to eat free for almost 2 weeks by attending these meetings. Once you decide which organizations to spend your time with, then comes the planning for the semester and the dedication to that organization. There is some party or forum or movie sponsored by someone every night.

One of the biggest events of fall is Fall Fest. It’s held every year during the first week of school. It’s kind of like a big block party and everybody is there. South Road is closed down and groups and clubs set up tables all along the road. They pass out information about their organizations and talk to interested students (I told you fall was all about the recruitment). There are performances, free food (which you will learn is very important in college), games, and the chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

Fall means football games and Tar Heel Town. It truly is an awesome sight to watch swarms of Carolina Blue move toward Kenan Stadium on game day. Fall also brings Halloween along with it. When you get to college Halloween becomes an important holiday again. People dress up in ALL kinds of costumes and go out to Franklin Street. It is almost as fun as trick or treating when you were little.

I’m sure there is so much more to fall here. Everybody has something that they treasure about the season. Most students here will agree there is no place like Carolina and there is nothing like Carolina in the fall.

Hope to see you on campus!
