What I did this summer
Oh!, What a summer it has been. But I think my most memorable
day was my last one at work. At this time, Credit Suisse First Boston made
me a job offer for when I graduate.
From the rainy days of London to the beautiful coast
of Monaco to the canals of Venice…It was a summer I will never forget. Oh!,
What a summer it has been…It was a summer I will never
forget.
From my friends in Chapel Hill, to my family in Atlanta, to my 44 new
friends made in Western Europe, to my future home of New York City…It
was a summer I will never forget. From Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston in Cannes,
to the pope in Rome, to Erik Dampier on my flight from New York to Atlanta…It
was a summer I will never forget.
As I look back on my summer, I can hardly believe how much I accomplished.
Let’s rewind to the date May 4, 2004. My last exam has ended and I can
feel the rush of excitement. Sure, I am saddened about leaving my friends at
Chapel Hill, but I am also beyond excited about what I have in store for the
summer. I pack up my belongings and head home. This was hardly a summer of
lounging around the house, however. Two days after arriving, I departed for
London.
In London, I met the 44 people who would be my family for the next 17 days.
I did a trip by Contiki, which specializes in tours for college students. Traveling
with me were kids from Australia, South Africa, Canada, and the United States,
among others. Some people get scared about traveling with random people…this
was not the case with me. While any trip involving the U.K., France, Monaco,
Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands would be amazing, these people made it
all the better. While I could go on forever about this vacation, I will sum
it up by saying this: Go to Venice if you are romantic, Rome if you want to
sightsee, Monaco if you want to experience high society, Amsterdam to have
fun, or Cannes to relax on the beach.
Exhausted I flew back home to Atlanta. My family greeted me with excitement
and eagerness to hear my stories. As much as I wanted to tell them all the
stories, I had to get some sleep. I think I had slept about 5 hours out of
the past 48. There was little time for rest, however, because I had to pack
for New York where I was going to spend the next 10 weeks of my summer as an
investment banking intern for Credit Suisse First Boston.
I stayed in NYU housing on Canal Street with a roommate from UPenn. He was
a good guy who was part of a Sales and Trading internship with JP Morgan. Unfortunately,
his hours were the exact opposite of mine. He was getting up at 5 am to go
to work while I was often getting back after midnight.
While in New York, however, I also ensured that I experienced the city. I
went to see two musicals (The Producers and 42nd Street), two Yankees Games,
a Mets game (against my Atlanta Braves), a comedy club, the Manchester United
versus Liverpool soccer game, among others.
All of these were great times, but I think my most memorable day was my last
one at work. At this time, Credit Suisse First Boston made me a job offer for
when I graduate. I was relieved to know that I would be entering
my senior year not having to search for a job.
Now there is only one thing to do……………..Have
the best senior year ever.
