A typical day in my life at Carolina

Like most active and involved UNC students, my typical day is filled with classes, group meetings, studying, and of course friends and good times. Although my days here at Carolina keep me rather busy, I wouldn’t have it any other way!

A typical day for me here at Carolina is probably much like that of most students at UNC….busy! This semester, Tuesdays and Thursdays were my busiest days. I would get up at 7am, take a shower, get dressed, and leave by 7:45. Though I could very easily catch one of the campus buses to class, I always take the 10-15 minute walk from my dorm to class because it’s a good way for me to get a little exercise every day. I have three consecutive classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which means I am in class from 8am-12:15 pm. It’s not bad at all because I love being done with my classes by around noon.

Once my last class has ended, it’s lunchtime! I head over to the central area on campus which is where Lenoir Dining Hall, the pit, and the quad are located. On any given day at UNC, you’ll find lots of people and plenty of things going on in the pit around lunchtime. For example, you might find one of UNC’s many a cappella groups performing, the infamous Pit Preacher loudly projecting one of his sermons, Opeyo Hip Hop dancers performing, or even UNC Men’s Basketball coach Roy Williams encouraging all Carolina fans to get fired up about the next big game! For me, lunchtime is a great time to do a little socializing and eating lunch in Lenoir Cafeteria with friends.

One thing that you will find about UNC students is that many are actively involved in campus organizations. There are literally hundreds of campus organizations that you can become involved with at UNC. In fact, if you find that there isn’t a campus organization that suits a particular interest you may have, you can charter your very own! I’m involved with the Carolina Blues organization, so I complete work assignments in the Carolina Blues office every Tuesday at 1:30 pm.

Once I have finished with that, I head back over to my dorm and get ready to buckle down and start on my homework and studying. There are lots of great study spots around campus. Many people choose to work and study in one of the many campus libraries. Usually, I like studying in one of the study lounges in my dorm, which are large, quiet rooms with plenty of desks and sofas. You can find study lounges in any UNC dorm. After a few hours of studying, I either head over to Chase dining hall or maybe Franklin Street for dinner.

Once I finish eating, I’ll have about an hour to just to relax, visit friends, watch TV, or catch a quick nap until I may have another meeting that evening. For example, I am involved in UNC’s Emerging Leaders Program, which often sponsors leadership seminars on Tuesdays from 7pm-8:30pm. Once the seminar has ended, I’ll arrive back at my dorm around 9 pm and spend the rest of the night finishing class assignments, reading, and studying as I get ready for the next day.

Like most active and involved UNC students, my typical day is filled with classes, group meetings, studying, and of course friends and good times. Although my days here at Carolina keep me rather busy, I wouldn’t have it any other way!
