What I did this summer
This summer, I had the privilege of participating in the Science Enrichment
Preparation (SEP) Program sponsored by the North Carolina
Health Careers Access Program (NC HCAP). This program is targeted
toward students that are interested in pursuing a health career such as
medicine, nursing, dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, radiology
and pharmacy. Over the course of this nine week program, which was
held on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill, participants took courses in
Human Physiology, Organic Chemistry, Physics and Math. We were also
given tours of UNC's School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of
Nursing, as well as the Dental School. During our visit to UNC's
Medical School, we were actually able to go into one of the labs and
view actual cadavers!
The Science Enrichment Preparation Program was a very fulfilling
experience for me this past summer. I was able to meet students that
shared my career goals and aspirations. The SEP Program also provided
the participants with a great opportunity to build networking
relationships with key faculty members and advisers. I encourage
anyone that is interested in pursuing a health-related career to
definitely check out this and other programs sponsored by the NC Health
Careers Access Program here at UNC.
