Road-tripping to St. Louis with 11 Tar Heel fans to watch Roy’s Boys WIN IT ALL…

PRICELESS!

Check out the photos

For four years, my friends and I have given our hearts and souls to Carolina Basketball –spending countless hours sitting outside the Dean Dome on Saturday mornings to get tickets, buying enough Carolina gear to outfit a small town, and giving up everything to cheer the Heels to this finale.

So, what on earth would ever stop us from getting tickets to the Big Dance, renting a 15-passenger van, and driving 13 hours to see them win. With March Madness on the brain, we got student tickets to the game and made the commitment to go cheer on the heels. After driving all night Friday, we took a nap and headed to the Landing in St. Louis on Saturday to get the party started. We showed those other teams how to have a good time, cheering and dancing to the music provided by the General Alumni Association, the Tar Heel Pep Band, and our cheerleaders before heading down to the game.

Standing on our chairs in the last row of the lower level, we watched the Heels dominate Michigan State without missing a beat. While I was ridiculously excited about this historic win, I couldn’t help but be anxious and excited about the championship game. On Monday, the streets were flooded with that awful Illini orange and dots of our beautiful Carolina blue. But it was a beautiful Carolina blue day (and we all know God loves the Tar Heels and that is why the sky is Carolina Blue)! So we brought our A-game down to the Arch, discarding the trash talk those Illini fans threw at us and having a good time.

Shouting cheers of “Let’s Go Tar Heels,” “Defense,” and a our own version of “Eye of the Tiger” that has one word – “ROY”, we cheered on our boys – Sean, Ray, Jawad, Rashad, Jackie, Marvin, David, Melvin and the rest of Roy’s Boys – as they showed the entire nation why Carolina Basketball is #1!

As a senior, I have waited and hoped for four years that we would take it home to Chapel Hill. I was speechless after the buzzer sounded – one-third excited, one-third hoarse from cheering, and one-third still in awe and shock of this amazing feat. I am so proud of Roy and his boys and so excited over being a part of Carolina history. This year has been the most amazing I could have asked for as a Tar Heel fan – I was standing in the risers when we beat Dook to claim the ACC Regular Season Champs Title, and I was there when we won it all in St. Louis. I will never stop loving the Heels!!! Congrats to both our men and women for going UNDEFEATED at home, to the women for making it to the Elite Eight, and to the men – THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!! From the Dean Dome to Franklin Street in Chapel Hill to the Edward-Jones Dome in St. Louis, the voices of the Carolina Faithful are ringing true –

Way to go Heels! Natty Champs ’05…
