Plans for the year ahead

As I look forward to the year ahead, I have come to realize something. I am over the hump, and entering my next to last year at Carolina. This truly does disappoint me, for I feel that my days left in college will soon be numbered. That’s why, next year, not only will I make the most of my last days in college, but start preparing myself for the new world. One way to do this is take on leadership roles.

In high school, I attained numerous leadership roles in several organizations. This is something my busy college schedule has not allowed me to do. I also attribute my reluctance to being a bit intimidated, since I was only a sophomore or freshman. As I look back now, I feel a bit silly and would advise any incoming freshman to join anything they're interested in and never hesitate to take command if they so please.

In addition to taking on leadership roles, I want to embark on activities that I haven’t had a chance to. Carolina has so much to offer, and I want to take full advantage of it all. Next year, I especially want to make a bigger effort to hear more of the speakers who come to campus. The speakers who visit Carolina don’t go to just any college; therefore, as I Carolina student I should definitely seize all of my opportunities. My worst fear is to graduate and realize that I’ve spent a good portion of my four years sitting in my dorm room.

As a junior, I will really have to start preparing for my life after graduation. Since I plan on going to law school, I will spend a good portion of my time preparing for the LSAT. The LSAT is to Law School admissions, what the SAT is to Undergrad College admissions. Much like I had to study hard for the SAT in high school, I will have to study hard for the LSAT if I want to go to law school. This means I will have to dedicate a lot of time and effort, which I am more than willing to do. I feel that it is necessary if I plan on getting into a good law school.

Lastly, I do have plans to work as an intern during the spring semester of my junior year. Internships are a very important supplement to college work, while giving you a window into the workforce. I am hoping to get an internship in a field related to my Communications major. In addition to gaining experience with the internship, I will receive college credit.

I have every intention of fulfilling all of my plans for the year ahead. I also plan on continuing the activities that I am already apart of. I know it will be hard trying to manage my time effectively, but with adversity comes knowledge. Therefore, by the time I graduate, I can leave Carolina knowing quite a bit and prepared for the next steps ahead.
