Carolina on my mind
When I first arrived at
Carolina, I had no idea people could be so friendly! I will never forget how
many students led me in the right direction the first day of class.
“In my mind I’m going to Carolina,” sang
James Taylor. These words describe how I feel when I’m not in Chapel
Hill. When I am away from this school, I miss everything about it so much,
it is like being away from home. This feeling is what I love about Carolina,
the way it draws you in like a magnet and eventually compels you to bleed
Carolina blue! My love for this University has transpired due to the combination
of the environment of Carolina, the students, and the town of Chapel Hill.
Carolina has a very laidback, friendly environment. It is true you still
have to turn papers in on time and study for exams, but even during the roughest
of times, i.e. exams, the environment of Carolina allows me to keep my composure.
The beautiful Davie poplar trees and the campus further enhance this environment.
There is nothing better than walking through campus on a beautiful warm day
when the sky is perfectly Carolina blue and the flowers are blooming in the
fresh Carolina air.
You will not meet better people than those in Chapel Hill (I know is a bold
statement, but it’s from my own experience). When I first arrived at
Carolina, I had no idea people could be so friendly! I will never forget how
many students led me in the right direction the first day of class when I
was constantly pulling out my huge campus map.
I truly feel like I have a
special bond with my fellow Tar Heels because we have shared many moments
together, which includes: waiting in line for basketball tickets early on
Saturday morning at the Dean Dome, using trays as sleds when it snows, cheering
on the Tar Heels at various sporting events, and hanging out in the Pit
between classes. These are moments that I will forever cherish, and I am so
glad I could share them with my fellow Tar Heels!
The town of Chapel Hill is an added bonus to Carolina. Franklin St. has
so much to offer and you really can’t talk about Carolina without some
mention of Franklin St. Whether you are going to grab a bite to eat or meet
up with friends at night, Franklin St. is the place to be! Basically, it screams
college town. There is always something to do in this town, so you will never
have a dull moment. There are tons of music vendors, places to eat, art galleries,
movie theaters, and parks, all within walking distance from campus.
Carolina has so much to offer and more! Carolina has been my little slice
of heaven, and if I must leave this great place someday due to other endeavors,
Carolina will continue to be forever on my mind!
