Why Carolina?

This is the only college that offers me everything that I want out of life – a great education, diversity, and a whole lot of smiles!

The question, “Why did you choose Carolina?” has been asked thousands of times by thousands of people. For each and every one of those thousand people, there is a different answer. People come to Carolina for countless reasons, and so did I. I specifically chose Carolina because this is the only college that offers me everything that I want out of life – A great education, diversity, and a whole lot of smiles!

There is no argument that Carolina is a place where you find intelligent minds. The academic community here is to be commended. Although, as college students, we party and so forth, we have priorities – and our first priority is to learn. As a freshman, I can already say that I’ve learned so much more than I knew since day one here at Carolina. I’ve learned from classroom discussions and lectures, and I’ve also learned much from my peers. Everyone on this campus has a different perspective about so many different topics, it’s like a buffet of ideas that you can pick and choose from. I know that once I leave Carolina, I will have a great education from inside and outside of the classroom.

D-I-V-E-R-S-I-T-Y! Carolina is so diverse. As a high school student, it was my belief that Carolina was just too big and that you would never have a chance to indulge in the campus community at large. Well, in some ways that belief was true; however, we are a big family here. As a family, we open up our doors to each other, and give one another opportunities to find out about our culture. There are so many groups, clubs, and organizations that are targeted towards diversity and that highlight a specific type of people. As a member of the BSM (Black Student Movement), I am able to learn from college students from a background similar to mine; however, I’ve participated in programs with CHISPA (The Carolina Hispanic Association) and other groups on campus that give me a chance to learn about their cultures as well. Diversity isn’t a problem here at Carolina…you’ll never run out of cultures to find out about.

A smile a day won’t keep your friends away! There are so many friendly people here at Carolina. We are all ambitious, motivated, and goal-oriented, and as a result of this, we seem to SMILE! We consider ourselves the well-rounded students. Where else can you go and get smart kids who are cool? LOL ? When I have bad days, my friends – all that I met when I came to Carolina – are here to cheer me up.
I don’t want to keep on making you read…I understand that you do that enough.

So, I guess my response to the question, “Why Carolina?” isn’t a spoken response at all – it’s more of a BIG SMILE!
