My
Background
I designed my own field of study in
the Epidemiology of Infectious Disease through the Interdisciplinary Studies
Major. I am taking classes through the Department of Epidemiology in
the School of Public Health, and in the Departments of Public Policy and
History in the School of Arts and Sciences.
By studying the social,
political, economic, and physical conditions that give rise to epidemics
throughout history and the policies intended to prevent and contain
them, I plan to address the following question: Why
do infectious diseases that are both treatable and preventable continue to
plague the world’s populations?
My special interests are Medicine and anything health-related! While
I may have doubts about my major, I am firmly pre-med. I love learning
about health care policy, the history of medicine, medical anthropology,
the social aspects of disease, and of course, anatomy.
I'm also very
committed to community service and recently joined the Carolina
Service Scholars Program. I love most forms of writing and being
creative in general. I enjoy singing, drawing, 4-Square, and Ultimate
Frisbee, though I cannot claim too much talent in any of the four.
