A
typical day in my life at Carolina
One major philosophy I've adopted that has helped me get through
my first semester and a half at Carolina— don't hit the snooze
button.
I absolutely
love Thursdays! It’s 8:45, and I’m rolling over to turn
off my alarm and hop into my running clothes. One major philosophy
I’ve adopted that has helped me get through my first semester
and a half at UNC is to not hit the snooze button. While that may
be extremely alarming to some of you, my days are packed, and for
some reason, getting an early start to my day helps me to feel more
organized. I scoot downstairs to the kitchen, grab a quick bite
to eat, and head off for my run. As I run down Cameron, the sidewalk
is packed with students hurrying to their 9:30 classes. People are
chattering away, with each other or on cell phones, reading The
Daily Tar Heel or squeezing in last minute studying. As I run and
enjoy a beautiful day, thoughts about what I have left to do that
day race through my mind.
My fabulous
schedule gives me time to run, shower, and enjoy lunch before my
first class. Lunch at the Chi Omega house is typically an opportunity
to eat a good meal and chat with friends about anything from current
events, politics, and classes to Wednesday night television and
Thursday night plans.
No matter how
much time I think I’ve allowed myself, I’m always racing
to my 12:30 class. Fortunately, it’s not a very long walk,
and after picking up the newspaper (I read the editorial page every
day without fail), I sit down and pull out my notebook for an hour
and fifteen minutes of interesting group politics. I’ll admit,
it’s not my favorite part of the day, but it has its moments.
My 2:00 class
is conveniently located on the floor below my previous class. The
course title is the World Since 1945, and it’s my favorite
class this semester. The material is interesting and so pertinent
to most of the issues that appear in the news today. It also fits
nicely with my European government class.
Thursday afternoons
are sort of my cleanup time for the week. This is when I meet with
professors if I need to, run errands, nap, and finish up any studying
or homework assignments for my Friday morning Spanish class.
After dinner
and an hour or so more of homework, I typically spend the rest of
the night with friends, and we go out or watch television and just
hang out.
Well, that’s
my day. I’m sure you’re probably thinking, “You’re
kidding! How can that be all she does?!” But I think you’d
be surprised by the number of things you can find to occupy your
college days!
