I’m so glad you’re here! This means you’re already interested in Carolina and you want to find out more! Well, let me tell you a little bit about me, and then you can read about what I have to say about Carolina.

I’m Sarah, and I’m from Smithfield, North Carolina. There are usually three ways that people know Smithfield. The restaurant Smithfield’s Chicken and Barbeque is from Smithfield, NC, which is the hometown to Hollywood starlet, Ava Gardner, and fabulous outlet shopping at what is commonly known around town as “The Pottery.” If you don’t know of Smithfield, it’s okay, but it has a very rich history!

Anyway, I am a sophomore here at Carolina, majoring in Public Policy Analysis with a minor in Social and Economic Justice. I want to go to Law School, and my ultimate goal is to become a United States Senator. Vote for me! I’m very interested in politics and government, and the most important policy issue to me is education. In high school and for the past two summers, I worked at the Johnston County YMCA as an afterschool counselor, Summer Camp Counselor, and Swimming Lessons Instructor. What can I say – I love kids! They’re lots of fun, and, although it’s so cliché, they’re our future!

On campus, I’ve found many things to occupy my time. I am a committee member and volunteer of the UNC Dance Marathon, which raises money for the families of patients at the NC Children’s Hospital. Through the Admissions Office, I give tours to perspective students. Carolina Leadership Development has some great opportunities, including the Emerging Leaders Program, which I’m involved with. I also enjoy doing community service, and through the Carolina Center for Public Service, I am a Public Service Scholar. Among other things, I also find time to work in the Community Office in the housing community that I live in.

In my spare time, I like to have fun with my friends whether it’s a low key night in, studying (or procrastinating) together, or a night on the town. Chapel Hill is such a great college town; you can always find something to do!
